Last week in my reflection post I said I was going to use the sources we learned in class to help me write my essay and it was actually very helpful for me. I also said I was going to highlight and use other reading strategies for our reading 96 class to help with the journals which I did do because if I didn't then I wouldn’t have completed my homework. Also the SQ3R strategies helped me understand the chapter in my child development book. Since I could understand the chapter so well from using the SQ3R strategies, I feel that I did very well on my test today in that class. Everything was very helpful for me this week and it was nice to write it down so I could see what I needed to do to help me study.

I realized that I used more study strategies then I really thought about. I had to use time management because I had to use the time I didn't work to study or do homework. This week I will have to revise my essay which will mean I need to read it over and check for grammar and spelling errors. I will also have to use my time management skills to help me finish all my homework and studies this week. It will help me be less stressed when it comes for me to do my homework because I will have made the right amount of time for each class and I will finish all my work on time.

Affixing

I could understand the meaning of this word by the way it was presented in the sentence. Also by the way it sounds makes it easy to infer the meaning.

I affixed a resume with my application.




Shrewd.

This word just sounds like what it means and reading the sentence really helps to understand the meaning.

Politions can be very shrewd.




Disgruntled

This word is also easy to infer just from the word itself and also the words in the sentence help make it even more clear.

My disgruntled friend refused to come hang out with me and some other friends.

reflection

I have learned many study skills this year that help me every week with my homework. Learning how to highlight just enough words helps to get the main ideas from the reads and be able to look back and study them with out re-reading the whole chapter what whatever it is im reading. Also SQ3R is a great strategy to know to help with all text book readings. Even if you have to change the SQ3R around a little it is still a good strategy to know. Annoting helps more in textbook reading than reading articles because article don't have much room to write and most of them don't even have majoir headings for new topics. I have found that associating ideas really helps too. It gives you a bigger picture of the reading and makes it more understandable to you if you can relate to it. Also reading headlines or studying graphics really helps because sometimes it give more info then the reading does or it just makes it more clear for you to understand. All these plus more have been very helpful strategies.

For this week i will be using some of these strategies to help me with me studies. For my reading class I will use highlighting, associating ideas and reciting to help me understand the articles in the newsweek magazine. For my child development class i will use the SQ3R strategy to help read a chapter in the book. From doing the content area project on my child development class i found that thats strategy really does help when reading chapters from the book. For my english class i have to write an essay so i need to do research and it helped yesterday in class when we talked about which websites you can trust and be sure to watch for that. Also some articles in the newsweek magazine will help me with my essay and give me more sources which I think is really cool. I believe everyone should take one reading class so that they can learn all these reading strategies because I believe it would help so many people do better in school.

I also knew this word from expierence of our vocab words. Also in the sentence it is easy to understand the word from the words leading up to it.

Xenophobic

I knew that phobic means fear and i understood what the fear was from just from the whole article and the sentences surrounding it.

After 911 many people were xenophobic.

An unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange.

I can tell from the sentence what the word means because the words in the sentence give it away.
